Raising funds for shipowners
in challenging Asian markets

01.
The Client Challenge

A rapidly growing Indonesian-listed tanker company required capital to acquire five relatively old tankers (two of which were niche assets). They were unable to source further lines of credit from existing domestic lenders.

The country’s challenging legal system and a number of high-profile failures from Western investors meant that raising capital for Indonesian projects could prove difficult.

02.
The Braemar Solution

Braemar worked with the client to define and structure the ‘ask’ to address the client’s needs while also ensuring success.

By utilising our global network of financiers and investors, we were able to introduce the client to a range of financing providers.

03.
The Result

Braemar successfully raised over 90% of the vessels’ purchase price from Japanese investors, structured as a Japanese Operating Lease.

The total transaction volume for the five tankers was USD 60m.
