Facilitating bespoke vessel builds for specialist gas transportation across the North Atlantic

01.
The Client Challenge

A client wanted to take advantage of the availability of valuable ethane gas in the USA. They needed an efficient transportation system to bring the gas across the North Atlantic. However, as this was a brand new supply route, there were no vessels equipped to carry the specialist gas.

The Braemar Solution

Our brokers worked with the client in mapping out the technical specifications for a vessel to carry ethane gas. We established the necessary fleet size that would ensure the most cost-efficient supply flow from the USA to Europe.

With the help of our team, the client identified possible shipowners and organised a two-day offsite meeting during which the owners could present their proposed vessel-build solutions.

The client selected a company who proposed a vessel that could use ethane as a fuel, which would not only save on emissions but also significantly reduce transportation costs. The vessel design included an optimised hull and bow, which would pierce rather than ride ocean waves, resulting in fewer delays in poor weather when crossing the North Atlantic.

Finally, we negotiated mutually agreeable terms for the long-term charter of the vessels to the client.

The Result

The client now has the optimal, sustainable shipping solution. Their custom-built ships not only reduce transportation costs but also ensure reliable, on-time delivery, therefore minimising supply shortages and bottlenecks.
