The Client Challenge

Our client had planned a number of oil rig moves that required the use of Anchor Handling Tug Vessels (AHTV) over several months.

Due to the difficulties of managing AHTV call-off arrangements – pre-agreed rates with pre-agreed conditions – such arrangements are very rare in the UK offshore market. Braemar needed to appeal to the ‘bigger picture’ commercial interests of both parties.

The Braemar Solution

Initially, Braemar persuaded two offshore vessel owners to agree to competitive terms and conditions. However, more intensive involvement was required during the campaign.

One challenge was repeatedly securing flexibility from owners to allow the client to ‘adjust’ the already-served delivery notices as rig-move timings changed, so that ships were not on charter before they were needed. This often involved multiple exchanges with owners to convince them to ‘work with’ the client, which, in turn, mitigated vessel costs.

By avoiding the spot market, the client saved around £375,000 over the course of the campaign.
